Sam Gilmour is an emerging oil painter based in Auckland, New Zealand, who brings a lifetime of dedicated, mainly self-taught practice to her compelling canvases. Initially working with water-mixable oils, she recently transitioned to traditional oil painting to achieve a richer depth of colour and texture in her work. Her deep connection to her craft extends beyond the brush: she is also committed to the tactile art of building her own painting panels and crafting elegant tray frames, lending a unique, handcrafted quality to her finished pieces. Drawing inspiration from the quiet beauty of nature, the comforting familiarity of home, and the evocative haze of nostalgia, her paintings capture scenes that resonate with personal significance. Following a successful exhibition at the Emerging Artist Gallery at the Art in the Park in September 2025, Sam is currently exploring new themes and narratives through a series of focused, small-scale paintings.
